Just got my power back today at noon. I am more than happy that the power is back on but I enjoyed it being off. I have slept better over the black out. It is proven that electronics mess up your sleeping pattern. I miss the luxury of being able to cook and have a balanced eating schedule. It makes me appreciate what I have. I realize what its like for others who don't have the luxury of electricity. Here are some pics I snapped during the wind storm.

My neighbor holding his siding on with a pool skimmer...he did this for 45 minutes.

Yes, they got up on the ladder in the middle of the wind storm.

This trampoline was in my neighbors backyard...now its in the front yard.

My neighbors new play set they just put together.

I woke up at 9:00 am to walk in the Buddy Walk at Newport for down syndrome. I usually don't wake up that early because of my work schedule but it was nice to wake up early and have the whole day.

Maya is my friend's cousin. She is 7 months old and has down syndrome. She is so cute, she slept almost the whole time.

Here are some pictures I snapped at the walk.

This is maya catching up on some zzzz's

Yesterday, 9-11 is a bad day not just because of the obvious but because that was the day we had services for my Dad at the cemetery. I wrote this poem for my Dad and gave it to him one year for Christmas.

There is one favorite memory I will always cherish from my childhood. It is that age-old game of baseball. I remember stepping out on to the field for the first time in my new uniform and those brand new cleats that I had to have. The grass always seemed to be freshly cut even though most of the time it wasn’t. The dirt on a field always seemed to be placed just right for a great game of ball. The lines of chalk neatly outlining the diamond were ready for the first runner to follow. I loved the smell of baseball. It is one of the smells that cannot be described; you just know that smell. I played ball from t-ball through junior high school. I learned all there was to learn about the game from my Dad. From rally caps to game day losses, my memory of this game will never be forgotten. I will remember this game especially because I could look in from the field and see my Dad in the dugout. My Dad was the head coach of our team. He treated everyone fairly including me, his son. He was a great coach. He brought our team to victory one season. We had an undefeated season and went on to play in the tournament. But as long as my Dad was the coach every season was a victory. My Dad taught me to always give the game my best effort and win or lose; the game would give me back all I gave and more. My Dad was right. My Dad, my head baseball coach is my hero. It is not because he was my coach but because he is my Dad. I hope and pray I can be as good a dad and head coach to my son.

Love,
Your Son the Left Fielder

To get the most out of firefox take a look at these extensions.

Adblock Plus - This is a must, it blocks ads that would normally load on a website. Since they are blocked the page will load quicker.

Tabmix Plus - Unfortunately this is not available for firefox 3, but not to worry it will be soon. Tabmix plus adds more functionally to the tabbed browsing feature in firefox.

Flashblock - This prevents all flash related media from loading and replaces it with an arrow. I have never used this but it would make the websites load faster.

Bookmarks Synchronizer - keeps your bookmarks sync'd up from the office to your home.

For those of who like to blog check out scribefire

To view some other extensions follow this link

Don't have firefox get it here

Here is a video I edited together of 911. I am not taking ownership of any of the clips that I used. All media is owned by its respective owner. Song by Jimmy Eat World.

Take some to reflect on those who gave their lives on that tragic day.

According to ryan at thisisreverb.com today is a day of 7's, so I thought I would join in on the fun.

7 tips to better computing with windows xp.

Never look at porn...it will lead to serious virus/spyware infections. I know cause I work for a computer tech company that cleans up these sort of infections. People are always worried that we are going to find their collection.

Always use anti virus and spyware protection. But only use one anti virus, the one I recommend is free to use for home users is avg 8.0. This program includes your anti virus and spyware program. You can use multiple sypware programs but I only use 2. The avg program listed above and spybot search and destroy.

Use temp cleaners before every spyware scan. Spyware tends to hide in these areas. There are 2 free programs that I use for this, ccleaner
and atf cleaner.

Run monthly defrags on your computer. Windows has a built in defrag which you can get to by clicking on the start menu -> all programs -> accessories -> system tools -> defrag. Another option is Perfect Disk 2008. This program does cost but you can use it free for 30 days.

Always use firefox 3.0 and never use internet explorer.

Make sure to stay current on windows updates or set it to run automatically. Here is an article about the recent updates, article about updates. To set your computer to recieve automatic updates click on start -> control panel -> switch to classic view on left hand side -> click on automatic updates -> set the schedule, and your done.

My last tip is the best one of all. Buy a MAC! I have been a devoted pc user for my whole life. I am tired of the maintenance windows computers have to go through. PC's will never be obsolete because of their cost, everyone writes programs for pc's, and business always use pc's unless they are in the creative field. So we always have use pc's to some extent, but I am switching to a mac as soon as I can afford it.

7 Jim Bob and Tim Chuck Pictures: Jim Bob and Tim Chuck are fun loving hill billies which were created as part of the White Oak Presbyterian camp program and were later used in young life as a run on (which is basically a skit). They were mainly for comedic relief but they also had duties of handing out mail to the campers.

The sun was beginning to fall into the night sky when I left. I enjoy to ride my bike at night. Its peaceful, calming, and soothing. The sounds of night seem to ride along with you. Sometimes its nice to get away where there is no sound of the normal life...where peace surrounds you.

I have never truly felt that peace, but I think I came close in high school when I was at young life camp. I went para sailing. When you are up there it feels as though you are at peace with everything around you. For me, that is what I think heaven is like.

It has been 5 years since my father passed away. I don't think I will ever be at peace with the fact that my Dad is not here. I wrote this journal entry sometime after he passed:

The phone call still rings in my ears. It probably always will. Before we left the hospital they said, “no news is good news”. Then the call came around 5:00 in the morning. I knew before I even picked it up that my dad was not going to make it. I don’t know how I stayed strong. Between my mom’s cries and words I could not understand because she was so shaken by the news. The streets were lonely much like my life was going to be without my dad. I felt like I was in a dream world. The lonely empty streets beckoning me to go farther to hear news I did not want to hear.

We arrived at the hospital that was also empty besides the people working on my dad. We walked down the hallway and I heard them working on my dad. The machines were going crazy and the nurses were running back and forth. The surgeon at this point was pumping my dad’s heart with his hand. I had to pull my mom back from seeing my dad. This day I will never forget. It will be etched in memory as one of the worst days I had to experience.

Amongst all of this I wonder how I stayed so strong. Of course I cried and shed my fare amount of tears. But I had to ask my self am I normal cause I don’t feel anything about what happened? I did not cry all day at the funeral home. I guess I was at a peace. A peace only God can bring. I knew my dad was alive today as he’s ever been. He is where we all as Christians wish to be. His life on earth has ended but his life continues on in a much better place. This is my desire to be where he is. Not only to see my dad again but to be with God and Jesus.

Since its labor day and people like to grill out today here are some tips on grilling the perfect hamburger. Tips from menshealth.com

1. Grind it out
Start with a hunk of chuck or brisket and have your butcher grind it fresh. ‘Make sure they use the medium grind—this will give you a juicy, moist burger,’ says Hubert Keller, executive chef at Burger Bar in Las Vegas.

2. Master medium rare
Take the meat out of the fridge an hour before cooking. “Bringing it closer to room temp helps the burger cook evenly,” says John DeLucie, chef at the Waverly Inn in New York City. Rub with olive oil, salt, and pepper.

Use high heat. “If you don't hear the sizzle when it hits the grill, you're screwed.” Cook for 3 to 4 minutes a side, adding cheese at the end. The burger should feel soft and springy.

“Let it rest 3 to 4 minutes before eating so the juices redistribute,” says DeLucie.

3. Expand your options
‘Raid your fridge for items you might not associate with burgers,’ says Keller. Keller likes mango on his turkey burger and grilled asparagus on his beef burger. Other inspired additions: zucchini, grilled shrimp, and guacamole.
